Answering the Million Dollar Question: How Long Should I Stay in Gozo?
Gozo is the perfect location for either a day trip or even an extended stay. If you’re visiting Malta for a short time, you can still manage to visit Gozo’s main attractions and get a good feel of the island in one day. However, if you’d like to get the full Gozo experience, we recommend staying over for at least 2-3 days. This will allow you to experience Gozo’s peaceful locations, explore its quirky villages and try various traditional restaurants spread all around the island.
So What Are the Things That You Can Do in Gozo
As mentioned earlier, Gozo is truly a gem worth exploring and discovering. Below we will look into several things that you can do when spending time on Malta’s wonderful sister island.
1. Discover Malta’s Ancient History at the Ġgantija Temples

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ġgantija temples is a complex older than the pyramids of Egypt. In fact, it dates back to 3,600-3,200 BC. This megalithic site offers insight into Gozo’s prehistoric past and features an interpretation center showcasing ancient artifacts.
2. Explore Victoria (Rabat) and The Citadel
Victoria, also called Rabat, is Gozo’s capital. Here you can wander through Republic Street, visit Basilica San George, and explore Villa Rundle Gardens. Furthermore, take some time to explore this village’s narrow roads, take note of the beautiful wooden doors and balconies and transport yourself into the magic that it brings with it. Make sure to take a quick tour around the It-Tokk market in Independence Square where you will find a lot of local crafts and fresh produce.

One uphill road up from Rabat’s core, you will find the Citadel. This is Gozo’s historic fortress, similar to Malta’s L-Imdina. Here you’ll find The Cathedral of the Assumption, several medieval stone alleyways, museums and gift shops. When you explore this fortress, you will also find ruins of an old village as well as a beautiful site over most of the island.
3. Visit the Best Beaches and Coastal Spots

Just like Malta, Gozo is surrounded by beautiful azure waters and hosts some wonderful beaches and coastal spots. Starting from Wied il-Għasri’s pebbled beach that enchants every visitor, to Ramla Bay, which is very well known for its red sand. Other spots worth a visit are Xlendi Bay, a picturesque beach surrounded by a scenic promenade and some fantastic seafood restaurants.
