There are two ways in which you can independently travel by ferry. One even allows you to take a car with you to better explore the island.
Taking the Fast Ferry from Valletta: This ferry departs from Lascaris Wharf Terminal in Valletta and takes 45 minutes to get to Gozo. The trip costs €7.50 one way or €12 return when purchasing your ticket online.
Taking the Gozo Channel from Ċirkewwa: This ferry departs from Ċirkewwa Ferry Terminal, north of Malta. This specific journey which takes a total of 25 minutes allows you to travel to Gozo by car. The individual fare is €4.65 and the car and passenger fare is €15.70. Tickets can be purchased directly at the ferry terminal.
2. Boat Tours and Cruises
Especially during the summer months, there are several companies that offer boat tours from different locations in Malta, including Sliema, St. Paul’s Bay, Mellieħa, and Ċirkewwa. These tours vary in duration and itinerary, often including stops at Comino Island, the Blue Lagoon, and Crystal Lagoon for swimming and snorkeling.
Answering the Million Dollar Question: How Long Should I Stay in Gozo?
Gozo is the perfect location for either a day trip or even an extended stay. If you’re visiting Malta for a short time, you can still manage to visit Gozo’s main attractions and get a good feel of the island in one day. However, if you’d like to get the full Gozo experience, we recommend staying over for at least 2-3 days. 1. Discover Malta’s Ancient History at the Ġgantija Temples
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ġgantija temples is a complex older than the pyramids of Egypt. In fact, it dates back to 3,600-3,200 BC. This megalithic site offers insight into Gozo’s prehistoric past and features an interpretation center showcasing ancient artifacts.
2. Explore Victoria (Rabat) and The Citadel
Victoria, also called Rabat, is Gozo’s capital. Here you can wander through Republic Street, visit Basilica San George, and explore Villa Rundle Gardens.
