Festival Season in Malta: Making the Most of Your Holiday

Share with friends

Festival season in Malta is right around the corner! As we enter the midst of spring and beginning of summer, Malta grows busier. And as the sun stops taking days off, it’s your turn to start. It’s time to book that ticket of yours and pay the island a visit.

In the warmup to summer, there are three ways to spend your days in sunny Malta. These include lazing around the beach, admiring the age-old cities and partying it up at a festival. With events popping up everywhere soon, now’s the perfect time to visit. Whether you’re here for a long or short time, with the right planning, it’s guaranteed to be a good time. Here are our recommendations for where to go and what to do in the upcoming season.

Tan and Jet Ski at a Maltese Beach

On an island, beaches are mandatory. If you’re visiting for a festival, spending the day at the beach beforehand is perfect to garner your excitement. While Malta has central beaches to explore, the better experiences lie on the outskirts of the island. If you take a Bolt, the furthest beach worth going to is rarely more than 30 minutes away.

Ghajn Tuffieha Beach in Malta is another one of Malta’s most popular beaches.

Malta has a very convenient transportation network setup. The easiest way to get around is by Bolt, which comes with different varieties. You can get a green Bolt, comfort Bolt or even a Minivan for your group of friends or your family. They are very easy to book and the waiting time is minimal so it takes almost no preparation to plan a day trip to somewhere like Golden Bay.

There are a few more famous beaches to try out. These include as mentioned, Golden Bay and St. Peter’s Pool. At many beaches, you can do much more than just tan. Golden Bay, for example, offers boat rental services. You can rent a paddle boat with a slide and go diving with your friends where the sea is deeper and the water clearer. Many even go cliff diving.

Mellieha Bay is one of those more exciting beaches with water sports and crazy water rides. After you are done jet skiing and kitesurfing, your ride back home is hassle free. Sunburnt and aching from your sporty day, take a 30 minute Bolt back to Valletta or Sliema, or wherever it may be that you are staying.

Be aware that respecting your host is key, even if you’re in a car. Some people are weary of tourists with wet swimsuits who will dirty their car. But most Bolt drivers provide seat covers or towels for you to sit on.

Admire the Architecture of Our Cities

Sightseeing is naturally on every visitor’s list. If you are attending festival season in Malta, you’re no different. Hit the major cities with the most beautiful architecture. Like Valletta, for example, built by the knights and the location of many movie scenes. Or Mdina, built by every generation of settlers who visited the island. Birgu as well has some gorgeous fortifications and monuments as do the Three Cities.

There’s rarely an area that a Bolt won’t reach. The drivers are also very helpful in that, if you share where you are going and why, they will give you their own tips and experiences. That’s the best way to get the inside scoop.

One local tip is to visit an old fortification or beach at night and appreciate the scenes. It may sound scary to a foreigner, but you are always very safe. Bolts can service you at any hour of the day so after you enjoy your late night, a Bolt is likely only 5 minutes away from driving you home.

Festivals Headlining Festival Season in Malta

Finally, what you came for: the festivals that make festival season in Malta so exciting. These range from silly university ragers to sophisticated art centres. Malta Jazz Festival and Valletta Baroque Festival are of the latter kind. Mizika Muzika is the former. Malta also hosts traditional dance and music festivals, as well as many historically themed ones.

Some call Malta the Party island. Every occasion possible turns the island into one big party. As the summer approaches, Maltese festas, music festivals and concerts are upon us!

During a festival, some roads may be closed for safety, but a Bolt can come a long way. In fact, just a few years ago Malta was swarming with Bolt scooters that were so popular they became disliked by the locals. Still, every tourist on holiday took the electric scooter as their ride of choice.

Bolt is quite an independent ecosystem in Malta. During your festival, for example, if you ever get hungry, you never even have to leave the premises. Just order Bolt food to an identifiable location and wait to be served.

Festival season in Malta is peak of what it has to offer. You’ll be getting busy but don’t get overwhelmed. With the right sunscreen, itinerary and a quick little Bolt, your vacation is already well underway.
