Tucked between Malta and Gozo lies a tiny island that packs a serious punch: Comino. Despite being just 3.5 square kilometers in size and having barely a handful of residents, Comino is home to one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the Mediterranean — the Blue Lagoon.
You’ve probably seen it on Instagram, in travel magazines, or on someone’s envy-inducing travel reel — but nothing compares to experiencing it in person. The Blue Lagoon is world-famous for a reason. Its water is an almost surreal shade of turquoise, so clear you can see the sandy bottom even meters deep. Add in dramatic limestone cliffs and the warm Maltese sun, and you’ve got a swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing paradise.
What makes Comino so special?
Unlike the busier islands of Malta and Gozo, Comino is virtually untouched. There are no cars, no traffic, and no stress. It’s just you, the sea, and raw natural beauty. The island is a haven for nature lovers, photographers, hikers, and anyone looking to escape the ordinary.
During the day, boatloads of visitors make their way from Malta and Gozo to soak up the lagoon’s magic – and for good reason. Whether you’re diving into the clear blue depths, lounging on the rocky shore, or exploring sea caves by kayak or paddleboard, Comino’s Blue Lagoon offers an unforgettable experience.
When to visit?
Summer is the most popular time to go, especially from June to September, but the shoulder seasons – May and October – offer a quieter, more relaxed vibe while still delivering stunning weather and warm waters.
How to get there?
Getting to Comino is easy. Ferries and private boat tours depart regularly from both Malta and Gozo (Sliema, Ċirkewwa, Mgarr in Gozo). Many tours include snorkeling gear, lunch on board, and time to explore other Comino gems like the Crystal Lagoon and Santa Marija Bay. Starting May 1st, 2025, all visitors planning to set foot at the Blue Lagoon must pre-book their visit online. How to book your trip to Comino online!
