If you’re looking to plan a short but unforgettable 3-day getaway, the below itinerary aims to help you make the most of your trip.

Day 1: Discovering Valletta
You cannot visit Malta without taking a trip to its capital city: Valletta. This UNESCO World Heritage site is full to the brim with charm and history, you will surely not be disappointed.
- Starting your day: You cannot kickstart your adventure without ensuring your stomach is full. You can rest assured that in Valletta you will not be disappointed. There are several small cafés spread around the city. Here you can get yourself a nice coffee and a pastry. Or maybe get your hands on a traditional pastizz to start off the day.
- In the morning: Once done with breakfast, we suggest you head down to St. John’s Co-Cathedral. Here you can admire its stunning Baroque architecture and the famous Caravaggio paintings.
- At Midday: Right at midday, make your way to the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Here you can enjoy the daily cannon firing from the Saluting Battery, with the stunning view over the three cities.
- In the afternoon: Stroll along Republic Street. Maybe visit one of the Museums along this road, such as the Grandmaster’s Palace. This houses the Palace State Rooms and the Armory. You can enjoy some lunch within the city itself. Or else head down to the Valletta Waterfront to enjoy a nice meal by the sea side.
- In the evening: Continue walking around Valletta admiring its hidden secrets and quirky spots. From the rooftop garden at the Valletta Design Cluster to the hidden natural pool right next to Fort St Elmo.

- Bonus: If you’d like to extend your day further, take the ferry and cross to the three cities for a quick walk around. Here you can also find several traditional Maltese restaurants for a delicious dinner to close off the day.

Day 2: Exploring Gozo, Malta’s Sister Island
Gozo, Malta’s sister island, is just a short ferry ride away. Getting there is simple, whether you take the fast ferry from Valletta, or the Gozo Channel from Cirkewwa. With a journey that is usually under an hour, you will get to enjoy stunning landscapes, historic sites, and pristine beaches tucked away in Gozo.
- In the morning: Get on the ferry from Ċirkewwa or Valletta, whichever is closest to your accommodation. You will arrive in Mġarr, and from here, we suggest you head up to Rabat. Take a quick walk around the Citadel, an ancient fortress with breathtaking views of the island.
- At midday: Going to Gozo means you should also make time to walk around nature and relax. There are plenty of cool treks that one can follow while visiting Gozo. These include a circular route that takes you from Wied il-Mielaħ, to Wied il-Għasri and il-Fanal tal-Ġordan!

- In the late afternoon: Later in the afternoon, take a trip to the Ġgantija Temples. This is one of the world’s oldest free-standing structures, dating back to 3600 BC. Or if you’re visiting in summer, make your way to one of Gozo’s many beaches. From Xlendi and Marsalforn to Ramla l-Ħamra you can dip your toes in Malta’s crystal-clear waters.
- In the evening: While you’re close to the sea-side, seek out one of the many sea-food restaurants. You will find plenty in locations such as Xlendi Bay or Marsalforn. Then simply make your way back to the ferry to slowly get back to Malta.

Day 3: Immerse Yourself in the Timeless Charm of Mdina
For your final day in Malta, you cannot miss walking through the streets of Mdina, Malta’s perfectly preserved, mediaeval silent city.
- In the morning: Start by walking into this wonderful, old city by crossing the bridge with the view over the Mdina bastions. At the end of it, walk through the famous main gate. This main gate was used in several well known films and TV shows such as the recently concluded series Game of Thrones. After, proceed to wander through Mdina’s quiet, narrow streets, passing by St. Paul’s Cathedral.
- At midday: Stop for some coffee, cake or pastizzi in one of the several restaurants and cafés around Mdina.
- In the afternoon: Spend your afternoon exploring the narrow streets and hidden alleyways, spotting Mdina’s colourful doors and beautiful door knockers. Make your way to the Jewish Neighbourhood, represented by the Old Jewish Silk Market building, as well as the Jewish Gate. Don’t forget to take some instagrammable photos along the way!
- In the evening: Venture out of Mdina on foot and make your way to Rabat, where you can explore the historical streets of this neighbouring village. Here you can also enjoy a traditional Maltese meal to close your holiday in a truly local atmosphere.

Some Tips for Your Upcoming Trip to Malta:
- Get a Tallinja travel card for easy and cheap public transport access.
- If you’re travelling by Fast Ferry from Valletta, book your ferry tickets in advance to save time. If you’re travelling to Gozo using Gozo Channel from Ċirkewwa, you only pay for your ticket before you board the ferry, on your return trip to Malta.
- Pack comfortable shoes, Malta will offer you a lot of room to explore.
