Packing for a destination you have not visited before can be tricky. The days preceding your holiday should be filled with excitement, not anxiety over your carry ons. With your trip approaching, here’s a guide on what to pack on your holiday to Gozo in the autumn.
The Basics
Your bag will naturally include your documents, tickets, technological devices and personal items, such as a camera to keep vivid memories of Gozo’s most picturesque landmarks. An important technicality to be aware of is that Gozo, being located in Malta, uses type G charging ports (UK style). Be sure to pack an adapter and voltage converter if necessary.
Bear in mind any medicine or supplements you have to take, though in case you forget something, there are plenty of well equipped pharmacies around the island to supply your needs. Finally, you need to be sure to protect your skin at all times. While the autumn usually sees an average UV level of 5, sunscreen is a necessity if you will be spending time outside. You are traveling to one of the sunniest countries in Europe, after all!
Clothes To Pack for Gozo
With the essentials packed, it’s time to start planning the fun part: your clothes. The Maltese islands have very mild autumns and winters. Gozo is a rather small, cliffy island, so winds and humidity from the sea can make the weather appear colder than it is. It is best to pack at least three layers for your explorations of Gozitan towns and villages.
A base layer of t-shirts or undershirts will serve as an added layer for cooler mornings and evenings. Bring a few lighter wool sweaters or cardigans to layer on top, that you can simply take off when the weather reaches its high points. Bring a pair of jeans or your choice of casual bottoms too. If you are planning on wearing dresses or skirts and tend to feel cold in the evenings, tights are always a good idea. Opt for a chunkier heel on your footwear to avoid any discomfort on cobblestone or textured terrain. Finally, a light jacket or puffer vest makes for your third layer (and good accessory).
Sportswear and Other Activities
Your holiday closet depends largely on your holiday plans. As Gozo is a destination filled with beaches, hiking trails and spas, you should bring an array of sporty attire for every occasion. Your usual sports attire will serve as your base layer such as a breathable t-shirt and a pair of shorts or light weight trousers, as well as sneakers for running and hiking, and any other sporty activities you plan on doing like yoga or buggy driving. Bring a hoodie or light jacket to top that if you get chilly, and a backpack to hold your essentials on your trips.
When in Gozo, you must visit the famous vibrant blue beaches. As the temperature is still warm enough to swim, bring a swimsuit and your slides of choice for the beach, as well as a linen or cotton material cover up. Don’t forget your beach towels, beach bag and some entertainment either (like a book or ball).
Since you are visiting Gozo in the fall, you should check out the rural life. If you plan on visiting a farm, bring some sturdier trousers, your choice of a shirt, and some flat shoes of a water resistant material, in case things get muddy.
Finally, for your trips of the Gozo waters on a sailboat or yacht, bring a warm sweater or a quarter zip. Add some water resistant shoes to avoid water soaking through your bottom layers. Gozo winds in the autumn can contain a lot of humidity, or you may be subject to splashes from the sea, so bring a rain jacket or some kind of water resistant cover for added protection.
